About Wrench Works Lab LLC

Hello, I'm John Seper, founder and principal engineer at Wrench Works Lab LLC.

My journey started early: as a kid, I was always in the garage, wrench in hand, fixing and tinkering with cars, trucks, semis, motorcycles, anything mechanical that needed attention. That practical, hands-on foundation shaped how I approach problems: designs must work in the real world, not just on paper.

As an adult, I went on to earn my engineering degree in my late 30’s, after decades already immersed in mechanical work, and built a career as a design engineer in demanding fields. I started in agriculture, creating equipment solutions for the field, then moved into the railroad industry, specializing in custom, one-off construction machinery. A highlight of my career was designing the cranes currently in use at the Bonnet Carré Spillway in Louisiana. These heavy-duty cranes, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, precisely handle the thousands of wooden "needles" that control massive floodwater diversions from the Mississippi River, protecting communities downstream. That project demanded precision engineering, durability under extreme conditions, and innovative problem-solving, qualities I bring to every job today.

At Wrench Works Lab, I combine that deep experience into custom engineering design and metal fabrication services. I lead every project personally, offering direct collaboration from concept to completion, no unnecessary layers or handoffs and leverage established industry relationships to deliver exactly what's needed.
